Rushed ~ Hedge Lake

So I wrote to the author, Brian Harmon, about Devils Lake.
This is his response . . .

Hi, Melanie.  Thanks for the message!  I'm not familiar with that legend, actually, but I love reading about things like that and have a pretty sizeable collection of odd tales like it.  the original idea from Hedge Lake came from a story about a similar little local "triangle" like the one in the book, where several people allegedly went missing without a trace and other strange activity was associated with it.  I forget the name.  I'll have to look up Elizabeth Lake.  It sounds fascinating.
Thanks for reading!

I had to add that to the post, cuz I thought it was cool for Brian to write back.

~~~~~~~
I just came across a Native American legend about Devils Lake. Of all things, I was watching an episode of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.  Episode Aliens and the Old West to be exact. The legend says the bottom of the lake is an entrance to the underworld.  It was said the Devils own head would come into this world through a portal at the bottom of the lake.  This lake is in southern California where the tectonic plates come together at the San Andreas fault.  The lake is now named Elizabeth Lake. In the 1700's the Mexicans called it Laguna Diablo, or Lake of the Devil.  In the 1800's frightened locals were tormented by a monsterous beast that would come out of the lake and mutilate their cattle.  The beast was called the Devils Pet.  It was also called a Thunderbird that was metallic and bullet proof.
The parallels are interesting; such as the evil at the bottom of Hedge Lake, monsters coming out of the lake, pet monsters, and even lightning spewing UFO's.  I hope you find this info interesting as you read Hedge Lake.
Happy reading!
