Emotional Age

I just did one of those silly tests on FB.

I got . . .

17

Although I'm nowhere near 17, I like what this says.
At 17, you still have dreams. That applies for you too. In your heart you are very young and full of life. You have high expectations of life. You have the impression that you are standing just at the beginning of your personal life. There are lots of ideas for projects in your head and your heart. You love to travel. At night you will invite friends around from the neighboring houses or enjoy a relaxing time for you. You are full of vitality and athleticism. You have a very good memory and can remember even the details of things. You can't stand injustice. That's why you fight them where you come across them. Occasionally there is chaos in your feelings. In most cases, but you are happy and grateful for the great life you were gifted.

Rushed ~ Hedge Lake

So I wrote to the author, Brian Harmon, about Devils Lake.
This is his response . . .

Hi, Melanie.  Thanks for the message!  I'm not familiar with that legend, actually, but I love reading about things like that and have a pretty sizeable collection of odd tales like it.  the original idea from Hedge Lake came from a story about a similar little local "triangle" like the one in the book, where several people allegedly went missing without a trace and other strange activity was associated with it.  I forget the name.  I'll have to look up Elizabeth Lake.  It sounds fascinating.
Thanks for reading!

I had to add that to the post, cuz I thought it was cool for Brian to write back.

~~~~~~~
I just came across a Native American legend about Devils Lake. Of all things, I was watching an episode of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.  Episode Aliens and the Old West to be exact. The legend says the bottom of the lake is an entrance to the underworld.  It was said the Devils own head would come into this world through a portal at the bottom of the lake.  This lake is in southern California where the tectonic plates come together at the San Andreas fault.  The lake is now named Elizabeth Lake. In the 1700's the Mexicans called it Laguna Diablo, or Lake of the Devil.  In the 1800's frightened locals were tormented by a monsterous beast that would come out of the lake and mutilate their cattle.  The beast was called the Devils Pet.  It was also called a Thunderbird that was metallic and bullet proof.
The parallels are interesting; such as the evil at the bottom of Hedge Lake, monsters coming out of the lake, pet monsters, and even lightning spewing UFO's.  I hope you find this info interesting as you read Hedge Lake.
Happy reading!
Bobwhite Quail
There was a quail sighting today.  We still have a quail hanging around.
We did a little research and found out it is a "Bobwhite Quail".  We have pictures of 2 different birds that have been in our yard. It's the male that is there today and the female that is missing.  I hope she's not really gone but wandering around the neighborhood somewhere.  Now that we know the difference we will be looking for both birds.
Here is a picture of a male and female Bobwhite Quail.
The white faced bird is the male and the brown faced bird is the female.
If Looks Could Kill
 October 16, 2012
Chris Jackson has secrets.
A wildly popular author of suspense novels, Chris hides away in the tiny town of Pyrite, Missouri, where she lives in a converted storefront and practices breaking-and-entering on local businesses.
Most of the citizens of Pyrite happily claim Chris as their very own celebrity. But the new police chief, Al MacNamara isn't one of them. Recently transplanted from the mean streets of Chicago, Mac hates mysteries. And Chris Jackson is a mystery.
Then, the murders begin. Murders that look suspiciously like those in Chris's books. Murders that escalate to a grisly stabbing that exactly mimicks a story no one has read except Chris, herself.
With MacNamara's help, Chris is forced to delve into the dark recesses of her past for answers. Is a madman stalking Chris? Or is Chris right to question her own sanity? Could she be committing the murders herself?
Honda Fury
Oh yeah!!!
I got to sit on a bike just like this.
I just mentioned to the old guy (70's) what a nice looking bike it was and he told me all about it.  Where he'd been and where he was going.  I was asking him about the ride and he told me to sit on it.  Comfy!
It's time to renew my drivers licence and I was thinking about dropping my motorcycle licence.  I don't think so now.  I want to be able to legally ride a bike if I want to.
Nice bike!
HONDA says:
Honda’s radical Fury is a chopper like no other. Not only is it easily the most distinctive custom we’ve ever built, but it’s comparable to one-off custom-house choppers costing 10 times as much—except that it probably works and rides twice as well. Long, lean and mean, stretching nearly six feet from axle to axle, this machine is a real head-turner. And once you settle into the saddle, turn the key and fire up that big 1312cc V-twin, you’ll know this is the bike you’ve been dreaming about.
Texting and Driving
One morning I was making my usual drive to work. The car next to me kept getting closer and closer to the line between us. My first response to this kind of driving is always, "I'll bet they are on the phone." So of course when I look over the lady was looking down texting.
I can't stand when people can't put their phones down to drive. I bet they would think twice if they understood the penalties of this new law.
For your safety and mine, PLEASE put down your phone!
Utah Text Messaging and Cell Phone Laws
Utah has one of the toughest texting laws in the country.
There is no prohibition on cell phone use while driving in Utah. However, all Utah drivers are prohibited from texting. (Utah has an extremely tough anti-texting law.) Utah also prohibits “careless driving” — which essentially refers to any moving violation that is committed while distracted by use of a hand-held cellphone or similar activities.
Texting Laws
All Utah drivers are prohibited from texting while driving. Text messaging is defined in Utah law as "a communication in the form of electronic text or one or more electronic images sent by the actor from a telephone or computer to another person's telephone or computer by addressing the communication to the person's telephone number." There are some exceptions to the anti-texting rule such as texting during a medical emergency.
Enforcement
Under Utah’s law, someone caught texting and driving now faces up to three months in jail and up to a $750 fine, a misdemeanor. If they cause injury or death, the punishment can grow to a felony and up to a $10,000 fine and 15 years in prison. Utah’s texting laws are considered “primary” laws. A primary law means that an officer can pull you over for the offense without having to witness some other violation. That is, the officer sees you texting and issues a citation.
I can't believe this book got a 3.5 star rating. I was a couple chapters into it and wondered if I even wanted to finish it. Then suddenly I was to the end. Not because it was a riveting page turner, but because it was so short. You can't tell how thick a book is when it's on your kindle. Good thing it was free.
